RAFFLE QUILT UNVEILED
Raffle Quilt tickets are available at in-person meetings or contact raffle@bloomingtonquiltersguild.org
The raffle quilt for 2022-23 has been revealed! This beautiful quilt, “Fabulous”, was made by Shannon Kane and Vickie Fry to be donated for this year’s raffle quilt. See more pictures and get the details.
Learn the story of how Shannon and Vickie made this Fabulous quilt. Tickets are available at guild meetings or contact the raffle quilt chairs at raffle@bloomingtonquiltersguild.org.
Can’t make it to a guild meeting to pick up tickets? Print the ticket request (PDF) and mail in a check to buy your tickets.
2022-23 GUILD CHALLENGE QUILT
Barbara Richards, the winner of last year’s Challenge Quilt, has announced this years theme … Pinwheels!
See the challenge rules (there aren’t many rules!) The challenge will be due at the June 2023 meeting.
You are invited to “Bold and Subtle”
You are invited to “Bold & Subtle”, a quilt show by RJ Trubitt and Emily Bogard. Their show will be October 7 to November 27, 2022, in the Rogers Room of the Monroe County Convention Center. The grand opening will be during the Gallery Walk October 7, 5pm- 8pm. The show will also be on the Gallery Walk November 4. The Rogers Room will be open Mon-Fri 8am-5pm. RJ says, “I hope you all can come and enjoy. Now guess which one of us is the Bold.”
One of the quilts RJ Trubitt will have on display at her show in Oct and Nov.
Recycling now available for rotary blades
During the course of a year, quilters wear out many rotary blades which then get tossed in the trash. We are now able to offer the opportunity to recycle them instead! A container will be available at the in-person meeting check-in desk each month for you to deposit used blades. When we have accumulated enough, they will be recycled through a local metal company who will pay the Bloomington Quilt Guild for them.
Rotary blades are quite sharp, so please handle them with care. A small container with a lid makes a good temporary holding/carrying device for you to transport the blades and dump them in the group collection jar. Thank you all for helping to recycle these blades!
’Bee’ Ready to Sign up!
We’ve been discussing Focus Bees - are you ready to sign up? A Sign Up Genius has been created to start organizing four new bees … a ‘traditional’ bee, an Orphan Block Bee, a Quilted Hearts Bee, and a bee for a community quilt organization. Sign up here and read a detailed description about each idea. You can also sign up for a bee at in-person meetings. Contact Tonya Humbard, our Bee Keeper, at bee@bloomingtonquiltersguild.org if you have questions.
Community Quilts - Updates and Pictures
For those who are new to the guild, we have a program where volunteers distribute donated quilts to various local organizations. We call this program Community Quilts. Members can bring finished and bound quilts to the in-person meetings and the program chair, Suzanne Thompson, distributes the quilts. The Community Quilts webpage has information on where quilts are donated and sizes some organizations request. See a few pictures of recently donated quilts. Thank you to everyone who has helped make our Community Quilt program such a success over the years! If you have questions, please contact Suzanne at community@bloomingtonquiltersguild.org.
Opportunities to volunteer - help the guild!
The guild needs a few people to help with tasks that keep the guild running: Raffle Quilt co-chair and running Zoom at the in-person meeting.
Our dazzling Raffle Quilt, "Fabulous," needs another co-chair to help spread the word, the tickets and to exhibit "Fabulous" at meetings. You would be working with Monica K. Jensen, the current co-chair, who sadly is bidding adieu to her co-chair partner, the moving-to-NY-Tara Babcock. Please contact Monica if you are interested at raffle@bloomingtonquiltersguild.org.
Having the option for Zoom meetings allows people to stay home when they are ill, out of town, or having transportation issues, but still be involved and keep up with what’s going on in the guild. We have one volunteer who can fill-in, but if one or two additional people volunteer we can ensure every month is covered. The process is easy to learn, you don’t need your own computer, and someone will be at the meetings to help set up. If you can help out, even for a month or two, please contact Karen Levay at president@bloomingtonquiltersguild.org.
